48 cards (4 football)

There are at least 4 football cards in this multi-sport collection, but there are 12 missing from the checklist, though some of the ones that are listed are only recorded as being non-football. I used to have photos of a couple of the football cards but they are stored on a CD that I can no longer access, so I've used some cards of other sports to illustrate this checklist.

Mastermind of Soccer
Match Weekly
3 discs

I know these aren't cards, but as with some other items I include on this blog they may be over interest to some collectors. These three flexi-discs were issued with Match Weekly with the 29 August, 5 and 12 September, 1981 issues. These two were still attached to the magazines but removing them left tape residue on the discs. I suppose that wouldn't matter too much if you have some sort of magic formula to remove the sticky stuff.

48 (4 football)

I've had some success in adding names to this checklist lately. Only 18 more to find. There are 4 footballers in the list so far.
I have amended the date to 1957, probably the earliest that this collection could have been issued. The boxer Terry Spinks turned professional in 1957 after winning a Gold medal at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne and he is shown in a fighting pose without a vest.

30 base cards (1 football)

The set was originally announced to be one of 25 cards without any football content, but on release this number has been increased to 30 base cards and Pele has been included amongst the 5 extra stars. All the base cards are autographs, numbered to 20 and there are 10 different versions of each card. I don't have any pictures of the Pele card yet but will add them to this checklist if and when they become available. In the meantime I've included some illustrations provided by Upper Deck. One of the Mystery Redemption cards will get you a David Beckham 2006/07 Real Madrid Match Used Shirt and this jersey is shown too.
This collection doesn't come cheap, it's $15,000 per box, though calling it a box understates it by some distance, it's a hand-crafted wooden box that is made of African Ribbon Mahogany. Each box is numbered and the total run is limited to 200.

What you get for your $15,000:

Hand-crafted wooden box with numbered plaque
1 autographed acrylic box topper
25-card autographed base set
30-card puzzle
1 Michael Jordan Diamond Card
1 Autographed Masterful Paintings card
1 Dual Autograph or Autograph & Cut Signature card

Match Weekly
1 booklet

This is another of those booklet where you had to cut out pages from the magazine, fold them in half and insert them into a special cover provided with the issue dated 19 September, 1981. I've typed them out as they appeared in the magazine rather than as they might appear in booklet form. There are 16 players each week, eight in colour and eight in black & white. The first eight player each week are the colour ones.
Spot the deliberate mistake. I feel a little better when I see errors like this. It makes my typing errors seem not so important. Derek Parlane (Leeds United) appears twice, once in colour and once in black and white, so that's 96 pictures but only 95 footballers.
